Watford FC have demonstrated their faith in 18 year old Nigerian forward Kash Odiase by offering him a professional contract, despite a serious injury that sidelined him late in the 2024/25 season.

The Championship club confirmed Odiase's promotion from academy scholar to professional status in their official retained and released list. The promising attacker suffered a significant injury in March that required surgery but had impressed the club’s technical staff with his contributions to the youth team’s FA Youth Cup semi-final run, including goals against Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra.

Odiase joined Watford’s academy in 2023 after stints with Bromley FC and the Bromley District team.

While Odiase stays, fellow Irish-Nigerian youngster Prince Sikiru has been released. The 19 year old featured for the development side but did not make a senior appearance during his time at Vicarage Road.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland U19 international Nickson Okosun has already secured a long-term contract through to 2029, with an optional additional year. Nigerian midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru, a regular first-team member, also remains on the books after a solid campaign with four goals in 27 league appearances.

In a football world that often discards injured youth too easily, Watford have taken a commendable stance with Kash Odiase. This decision goes beyond a contract it’s a powerful statement about belief, resilience, and long-term vision.

It would’ve been easier for the club to wait, to reassess once Odiase returned to full fitness. But they didn’t. They’ve recognised the potential he brings, not just for what he’s done on the pitch, but for the professional character he’s shown off it — battling adversity and earning respect.

For Odiase, this is more than a contract. It’s a lifeline. A chance to continue growing within a professional system, even while recovering. That kind of support can make the difference between a comeback and a career cut short.

We must applaud Watford’s decision to value players as people, not just performers. And we believe this move will inspire other clubs to adopt a more humane approach to talent development.

Let this be a reminder to fans and professionals alike: loyalty is a two-way street. And when clubs choose faith over fear, futures are built.
